Growing up we weren’t an adventurous family. In Florida there were, of course, trips to the beach, to Sea World, to Disney. Our religious family did good deeds on holidays serving meals to the hungry, visiting the elderly in nursing homes, and we grew up hearing stories about heroes of the Christian faith who gave their lives to serve internationally in the jungles, deserts, hills and valleys reaching people of all backgrounds.
While I believe I had above average exposure to some realities in the world, it wasn’t until 2003 when I moved to Brooklyn, New York to work a summer as a mission trip leader. That immersive experience changed my life. I came back from that summer and decided to intern with the organization followed by seminary. That summer gave me the experience I needed to realize what I wanted for my life.
I spent a gap year traveling all over the world in 2007 coming back to launch my career in non-profit work.
Have you ever had a moment where you knew you were in the right place at the right time? That’s the vision of the My World Initiative.
Our goal is two-fold:
To inspire the upcoming generation to see the world as their responsibility, today.
To assist every individual in the search for the unacceptable reality they’re here to address.
This is “My World,” and it’s yours. And we’re here for a reason.
You can help support the vision of My World by spreading the word! We’re recruiting now for our pilot group to launch in September 2018. If you know of a student between the ages of 18-25 who want a gap year adventure. Send them to our site: myworldinitiative.com
